Why Acorns and Oaks?

For my first post of this blog, I thought I would write the title of my blog. Why did I choose Acorns and Oaks? I do like trees, but not enough to blog about them. ūüôā

Well, back when we first started homeschooling- about 7 or 8 years ago, the Lord gave me a verse to encourage me and cling to. It is Jeramiah 17:8:

“They will be like a tree planted by the water

that sends out its roots by the stream.

It does not fear when heat comes;

   its leaves are always green.

It has no worries in a year of drought

¬†¬†¬†and never fails to bear fruit.‚ÄĚ

Aa few years later, another verse encouraged my husband and I in raising our children.

¬† and provide for those who grieve in Zion‚ÄĒ
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
   instead of ashes,
the oil of joy
   instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
   a planting of the LORD
for the display of his splendor. Isaiah 61:3

Just the thought that we are oaks of righteousness. Not because of our own goodness, but because of the grace that the Lord Jesus has poured out on us.
Not only that, but we are called to bring up our children to be oaks of righteousness. However, they are not yet full grown trees. They are still acorns, or maybe seedlings. But in them is the potential to become strong, mighty, sturdy oaks- Christians who can withstand the temptations of this world, be unmovable in their faith, and be a “display” of the Lord’s “splendor”.
And then they can be part of a generational vision themselves, but producing and raising little “acorns” themselves.:)
